The skin industry can be overwhelming. We are constantly being bombarded with the newest miracle in a bottle. Just walking through the mall you can’t get too far without a sales person pushing a bottle of magic potion in your face.
Let’s get back to basics. Having the best serums or creams money can buy will not benefit your skin if you are using them wrong. Below is the very most basic daily skin routine for both morning and night.
- Cleanse- You may have washed your face the night before, but remember that anti-aging night cream you applied? That night cream is chalked full of anti-oxidants and acids that exfoliated dead skin cells and nourish your new skin. Now lets wash all that off before we apply our makeup. Remember when washing to use your finger tips in a circular motion vs. a side to side. This helps lift and remove the dirt, oil, and makeup rather then swishing it from side to side.
- Exfoliate- There are many ways to exfoliate dead skin cells. From acids, enzymes, scrubs, to retinols, no matter what your choice is or what your skin needs, everyone needs to exfoliate! If you haven’t removed the dead skin, you cannot treat and protect the new skin.
- Serum- Serums are key to anti-aging. They are usually water or gel based and full of vitamins and peptides. Because of the water base product the ingrediants readily absorb into the skin.
- Cream- Lotions or creams are oil based. Meaning this will form an air tight barrier on the surface of your skin so water and nutrients cannot evaporate as easily. Hence why you need to apply your water based, nutrient filled serum on before the cream.
Of course I could get very detailed and skin specific, but I’m trying to stay basic! I hope this article helped you get a basic understanding of skin care, I know it can get very scientific very fast. Just keep in mind these basic 4 steps and the product ingredients will do the work.
